Commitment to quality, innovation and service has helped Silver Hill Foods stay at the forefront of a very competitive market. Our Quality System is controlled by our in-house Quality Department and operates to the highest standards of HACCP. The Company holds a higher level BRC Certificate in Quality Standards.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT

The Company also operates in compliance with an Integrated Pollution Control (IPC) Licence issued to the Company in January 2001 by Ireland’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This Licence, and the associated activities at Silver Hill Foods, is managed by the Company’s Environmental Department. The Licence contains conditions governing all Silver Hill Foods activities with a view to minimising the risk of pollution on/from the site. This includes the specification of strict parameters for all discharges, emissions and waste disposal operations.
Since our IPC Licence was issued, Silver Hill Foods has achieved significant advancements in environmental standards through the establishment of our in-house Environmental Management System. In our Annual Environmental Report to the EPA for 2003 we were pleased to report a compliance rating of 98%. We also reported significant progress in Waste Management with >40% reduction in Landfill waste produced on site and >80% increase in the volume of waste recycled by the Company. In addition, site water consumption was reduced and an external company were commissioned to carry out an Energy Audit with a view to reducing energy consumption for 2004.

As these advancements suggest, and as our Company Environmental Policy emphasises, Silver Hill Foods is committed to continuous improvements in environmental performance and it is to this end that we are developing a Processing Plant for the Recycling of Duck Slurry. Please visit Project section for details and see below for Silver Hill Foods Environmental Policy.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

It is the Environmental Policy of Silver Hill Foods to carry out the breeding and processing of duckling products while controlling, operating and maintaining the production operations in a manner which will preserve the environment as far as is practicable and possible. We, the Senior Management of the Company, propose that we will achieve this mainly by maintaining the Company’s Environmental Management System. This will assess all operations relating to the Company and review all practical options for the use of cleaner technology, cleaner production and the reduction and minimisation of waste for the good of the environment, taking into account the concept of BATNEEC.

In establishing this system we envisage that we will:

1.

Comply with all legislative, regulatory & IPC (Integrated Pollution Control) Licence requirements.

2.

Undertake all process and production operations in a manner that will minimise any risk to the environment as far as possible.

3.

Seek to conserve our resources through the responsible use of energy & materials.

4.

Train & instruct employees to conduct their work in a manner, which will achieve the company’s policy and objectives.

5.

Communicate the policy to all interested parties & make it publicly available.

6.

Make a commitment to investigating continuous improvements in environmental performance with the emphasis on the afore mentioned.
