THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT |
As one of the largest duck farming enterprises in Europe, the on-site farm at Silver Hill Foods generates a huge volume of Duck Slurry each year. Legislative constraints in the form of Nitrate and Phosphorous regulations place a significant strain on the Company’s available land for the disposal of this slurry. The Silver Hill Foods Environmental Project, which will alleviate this strain, is the development of Europe’s first All-Inclusive Slurry Treatment Facility. The Processing Plant for the Recycling of Duck Slurry will be located on-site at Emyvale in County Monaghan, Ireland and the final products of the recycling process will include dry fertilizer, heat, power and dischargeable effluent.
The Silver Hill Foods Environmental Project is a unique and innovative project which has been recognised by the Irish Minister for the Environment and the European Commission and as such, Silver Hill Foods was the sole Irish recipient of the LIFE grant support for the project in 2003. For more information on the LIFE Programme please visit the LIFE section above.
This website is designed to provide visitors with information on the Silver Hill Foods Environmental Project. Of particular interest will be the benefits of such a project, both environmentally and financially, and the ease with which the process or parts thereof can be transferred to other waste generating sites, whether large or small. On the website you will find details of our current system of slurry disposal, our proposed system for slurry recycling and regular updates on progress of the Environmental Project.
